This table shows the national contributions to the aggregated balance sheet of euro area monetary financial institutions (excluding the Eurosystem). PLEASE NOTE: A new set of tables is available in the ECB's Statistical Data Warehouse (SDW: MFI balance sheets) containing more detailed information on national MFI balance sheets together with a user-friendly facility for downloading data.

Notes: Euro area data cover the EU Member States that had adopted the euro at the time to which the statistics relate. Greek data are included in euro area aggregates as of January 2001, Slovenian data as of January 2007, Cypriot and Maltese data as of January 2008, Slovakian data as of January 2009 and Estonian data are included as of January 2011. In December 2010 a change was made to the recording practice, leading to an increase in total assets and liabilities as well as remaining assets and liabilities (especially due to the on-balance sheet recording of derivatives held in the trading book). Before January 2003 data were collected in March; June; September and December each year. Monthly data on outstanding amounts prior to January 2003 and monthly growth rates prior to January 2004 are derived from quarterly data. Including non-profit institutions serving households.
