This table shows the annual consumer price inflation rate, i.e. the percentage change in consumer prices from the same period of the previous year, as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for the euro area and the euro area countries. The breakdown is in accordance with the classification of individual consumption by purpose adapted to the needs of the HICP (COICOP/HICP). The breakdown shown is the one mainly used by the ECB. - Euro area data cover the EU Member States that had adopted the euro at the time to which the statistics relate. Greek data are included in euro area aggregates as of January 2001, Slovenian data as of January 2007, Cypriot and Maltese data as of January 2008, Slovakian data as of January 2009 and Estonian data are included as of January 2011.
