The young soprano Fanie Antonelou was born in Athens and began to learn singing, piano and music theory at an early age. After gaining her degree she went to study singing with Professor Dunja Vejzovic at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart. In March 2005 she won first prize in the Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens, in the category oratorio-lied. In the same year she played Ernestina in Rossini’s opera “L’Occasione fa il ladro” at the Rossini Festival in Bad Wildbad.
Fanie Antonelou will be accompanied on the piano by Petros Bakalakos. Born in Thessaloniki, Bakalakos studied the piano under Domna Evnouchidou, graduating with distinction, and then studied the organ at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is currently studying the harpsichord under Professor Jon Laukvik and song interpretation as a pianist under Professor Cornelis Witthoefft at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart, and is organist at the Bonhoefferkirche in Stuttgart.
